Like everything else this school year, Young Audiences will look a little different this time around, but we hope you will join us as jump, skip, and dance our way to the virtual finish line! We know how important it is that kids have access to diverse arts programs, particularly in this difficult and uncertain time. We also know how difficult it can be for schools to raise funds and organize these programs on their own, even under "normal" circumstances. This year's virtual Fun for the Arts events are designed to be fun and flexible for kids, families, and schools—your school may choose to do a remote jog-a-thon or bike-a-thon, or even a dance-a-thon led by one of Young Audiences' amazing teaching artists, Decimus Yarbrough. We're excited to get moving in a new way! Let's work together and make sure this school year is filled with wonder and creativity for everyone! How Virtual "Laps" Work This season we are measuring by MINUTES ACTIVE instead of laps to accommodate a variety of activities and make the tallying process easier for families at home. Each event is 30 minutes long, so students can complete a maximum of 30 minutes active. How to Register Click on the orange "Register a Participant" button on the navigation bar at the top of this page, and fill our the registration form. Tips: The Participant is the person participating in the event. The Adult is the person who will be managing the personal fundraising page and receiving event-related emails. When estimating your number of “minutes of activity,” remember that you have a maximum of 30 minutes. Donations: Online and Offline After you register for your Fun for the Arts event, you can share the link to your personal fundraising page with friends, family, and generous acquaintances so you can collect pledges for donations. Your supporters can make their pledges and donations securely, right there on your page! We have set up the website this year so that you can also record "offline donations" (i.e. checks and cash). This will help schools with prize tracking, but the cash and check donations will still need to be collected by the school. Tips: Per-minute donations are donations based on the number of minutes of activity you complete. For example, if someone pledges to donate $1 per minute and you are active for 15 minutes, their donation would be $15. Flat donations are donations for a specific amount just based on your participation in the event, regardless of how many minutes you participate. Young Audiences' (currently adapted to Fun for the Arts) Do you remember your favorite part of your childhood? Chances are, it had something to do with hands-on creating: making music, making color, making sculpture. We know that children are makers, doers and thinkers and that they learn in many different ways. Arts provide just that, many different ways to share their own ideas and learn new ones. Unfortunately, many schools do not have enough funding to offer great art programs, field trips, or supplies to their students. Get involved: registering your child for an online fundraising page donating to a runner's fundraising page -- Learn more about and Young Audiences Corporate Matching Donations: If you plan to inquire with your company about a matching donation, please notify us at youngaudiences@ya-or.org AND ask the matching donor to include the following in the donation information: Your name Name of the school If Young Audiences is not supplied with this information, your matching donation will be added to Young Audiences' general fund. Today, we see that low-income schools need more support to raise the funds they need - thus the Community Matching Fund was created. The Community Matching Fund will match the donations collected by students at low-income schools - to let them know their community cares for them and is invested in their success.
